How Do You Play?
Setup
Dungeon Pub Crawl is designed to be ready to play right out of the box.
In this box, there are two decks: The Dungeon Deck and the Treasure Deck:
Shuffle them separately. Place both decks face down in the middle of the table.
Each player selects a character sheet from the stack of 12 included character sheets, and lays it face up in front of them:
Players work in conjunction to discover the three pieces of the legendary Tankard of Destiny, reconstructing it and driving away evil from the pub.
But this quest does not come without a little friendly competition. Players gather traps & treasures by completing challenges and use their loot to drink their opponents under the table!
Play
Play begins with all players making a toast! At the start of a player’s turn, they will draw the top card from the Dungeon Deck. There are three types of cards:
If the face of the card is Blue, this is an Instant card. The player reads the card either to themselves or out loud and does what the card says.
The Instant will then be discarded face up next to the Dungeon Deck.
If the face of the card is Red, this is a Trap card. When drawn, the player who drew it reads the card to themselves and then places the trap face down in one of the three Trap slots at the base of their character sheet indicated in red.
Trap cards may be used whenever the card indicates to either effect drink consequences, adjust dice rolls, or steal/destroy Treasure Cards. If a player uses a Trap, another trap card may be used in response. Card effects resolve in the order they were played.
Only three Traps may be stored at a time. If there is a time when a player already has three Traps filled and draws a fourth Trap, they must choose one of their traps to discard.
All players take one drink for each piece that is currently revealed. Players can capitalize on this and use any traps or treasures they’ve stored throughout the game. When all three pieces of the Tankard of Destiny are placed together, the game either concludes or the cards can be shuffled back into the Dungeon Deck and play continues as normal.
There are three pieces that form the Tankard of Destiny scattered throughout the Dungeon Deck, they could turn up at any point!
When a piece of the Tankard of Destiny is drawn, it is placed face up in the middle of the table:
In addition to the 90 cards included in the Dungeon Deck, there are 30 unique treasures cards so every playthrough is different!
Treasure cards can be collected in a number of ways. When a player draws a Treasure from the deck, they place it face up on their character sheet in the Treasure Slot indicated in green.
Most Treasure cards are passive, and the effects last as long as they are in a player’s Treasure Slot. The powers granted by Treasures can range from taking fewer drinks, canceling other player’s Trap cards, or even making a new rule. These abilities only last as long as the Treasure is in a player’s possession. If it moves into a different player’s Treasure Slot, the power moves to the receiving player. If a Treasure is “destroyed" it is placed in a face up pile next to the treasure deck.
A player may only have one Treasure at a time. If a player draws a second Treasure, they choose which card to keep and discard the other.
Some Treasures are usable only once, indicated by the card itself. A player can elect to use their single-use Treasure at any time, even when it is not their turn and resolves like an Instant. The player reads the card aloud, the action is performed, and the Treasure is then discarded.
Classes
Each character has a class underneath their name. There are three classes in Dungeon Pub Crawl; Mages, Rogues, and Warriors.
When a card is drawn that specifies a particular class to drink, all members of that class will each choose a player to drink simultaneously. These drinks can cumulate on one person, or be spread around as they choose. Feel free to toast in solidarity!
